The performances of
the Experimental Stage of the Municipal Regional Theatre of Rhodes will commence on the
22nd of March 2004, presenting -for the first time- the video-theatre poem “Thoughts”
by Angelos Spartalis.
 The director of the play, Angelos Spartalis, is a painter. In the past few
years, he has developed an important exhibition activity in Rhodes, Athens and abroad
(February 2004: “Double Portraits”,
PnykArt Foundation, Kastella, Piraeus / May 2003: “Portraits and Groups”, MoTeR2, Centre of Contemporary Art of the
Museum of Modern Greek Art, Rhodes / March 2002: “Pose for your portrait!”, ITB, Art Cities in Europe, Berlin).
Parallel to that, he experiments with video art and art performances. In Rhodes, he has
presented the theatre trilogy “The End of the
World” (August 2000, April 2002, August 2003) at the Centre of Contemporary Art of
the Museum of Modern Greek Art as well as book-stores, bars and public locations of the
city of Rhodes.

 “Thoughts” is an experiment of coexistence between two people: a landlady
and her tenant. At the house of the landlady, the poet recites “twisted” poems and
fills up the walls with lines, such as: “The molesting of children is not persecuted in
countries where this is a National Product / It would be like forbidding the Spanish to
cane their olive trees / and the Americans to cane Arabs”. Mrs. Eleni walks around the
house holding a paint-brush and whitewashes the walls. At the same time, seven different
video-episodes are projected on the wall. Those are the thoughts of the poet which unite
Andreas Empirikos, contemporary art, the elections, the Paralympic games and the reality
shows with an artistic manner. Within the house, everyday life and poetry coexist along
with the image and painting…
